How do you do, ladies and gentlemen. This is Chris Mizerak. This article will serve to give you a rough template of the future of The Film Pub going forward. Yes, there will still be new reviews (film, TV, games) going forward. Yes, new content besides reviews will continue being present, as long as I have quality material to bring to the table. But don't expect the amount of content to be as frequent as the first year at The Film Pub. If anything, this article will serve as a fair warning for all of you to be prepared for less content in The Film Pub's second year.
The best explanation I can give as to why is not just one reason, but multiple reasons. For starters, I need to focus on another side of my creativity that I've neglected for quite some time: scriptwriting. Whether its short stories, small comedic sketches or lengthy narratives (think 5 hour films or even TV series), I need to start devoting more time and energy towards that rather than this website. Before I completely lose energy to fulfill that personal goal and my obligations towards this site, it's become necessary to start enforcing my writing skills elsewhere.
I won't mince words here. I've noticed for awhile that my writing skills have been getting more stale and repetitive with each passing article. Either that, or the subjects I'm writing about aren't warranting of a whole article. So starting with the next article, I may lump together multiple small reviews into one article to better manage my time and effort into this site all around. If you're wondering where to find these articles in the future, look for articles that start with the title "Quick Two Cents". If all goes well, expect these to be a mainstay.
Earlier this year, I said I would be pursuing a purchase of the Nintendo Switch 2 console for the purposes of this site. But much like with the PS5, it's been impossible to secure a pre-order on my end with the Internet seemingly rigged against consumers in favor of scalpers. On top of that, the prices for games going up in the industry is a huge red flag that can't be ignored. So don't be surprised if I'm unable to review the Switch 2 and its gaming library or if said reviews arrive very late. For that matter, expect some film and TV reviews to be late as well.
It's also possible that considering the prices continue to increase on streaming services (Netflix, Max, etc.) that I may cut down on the number of streaming services I use. Some of them I use more frequently than others, due to the amount of new content being released. In fact, I might put the ball in your courtyard. You can help me figure out which services I should stay focused on and which ones I can cancel subscriptions to. As of today's date, I have access to the following: Netflix, Max, Paramount+, Hulu, Disney+, Peacock, and Apple TV.
I haven't touched half of these services for around a couple months now, and I don't see that changing anytime soon. With my TV reviews, I want to focus on the complete series rather than an episode or season. That's why said reviews are very rare. For that matter, I'm not seeing enough movies right now to justify staying on AMC Stubs A-List. To be even more frank, I'm also getting tired of going to the same movie theater over and over again on my days off. It's no secret that there's plenty going on behind the scenes.
Some of this stuff I can't share with you due to privacy of the parties concerned. But there are also more changes that need to be made going forward sooner rather than later. What you can do on your end, outside of making sure your voice is heard on the streaming and subscriptions, is continue supporting the site any small way you can. Whether you simply view/like an article, become a site member or patron, or offer any financial advice to help improve this site’s future, any help along those lines will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you to everyone who has supported The Film Pub within its first year thus far. This will be a lengthy period of change with this site, its content, and everything else surrounding it in the months to come. I appreciate your patience and loyalty as The Film Pub continues to churn out content at a recreational pace. To close, here's a photo of Oreo on my inflatable pool rafts (deflated and packed, of course) just chilling out. Keep staying tuned for something that just might be up your alley. Cheers!
