Happy Thanksgiving to you all! Hope you're enjoying a nice holiday with either family, friends or loved ones. Today's quick website update will give you an idea of what to expect the rest of this year. If you recall the previous announcement article, you may recall that this is the day that I was supposed to put out my top 50 films list. I have good news and bad news on all three of the lists I mentioned in that article.
The good news is that the top 50 films as well as my favorite TV shows and video games lists will be out by no later than 9 pm on Christmas Eve. The bad news is that these lists will no longer be out today or this week as originally promised. I've been hard at work in my downtime trying to get set for a timely arrival. Unfortunately, I'm not very pleased with how the articles have been coming along. There's too much repetition in what I'm saying. If I released the lists in the current state they're in, it would be a disaster.
I want to make sure, as the author of this site, that my articles aren't a chore to read for my readers. Most of the hard work has been knocked out already. But I do need more time to refine it into a more accessible experience. It's also for this same reason that I may also change the numbers on the lists for my favorite TV shows and video games. Instead of 10 and 30 respectively, it may come down to 5 TV shows and 25 video games. So, if that happens, that's your reasoning why.
In the meantime, to make up for this delay and to give you the content you're after, I've got other articles planned to tide you over. I've already posted my review for "Blitz". I'm also planning articles for "Wicked", a Versus segment with "Moana 2" going up against "Spellbound", and a belated game review for "Metaphor: ReFantazio", since that game deserves it. Hopefully, all this and more will help make up for the delay via the quality control.
If I should decide to just simply list the films, TV shows, and video games in their respective lists and nothing else, don't be surprised if that should be the case as well. It's times like these past few months that make putting out content for this site an increasing challenge. I also was originally about to write a brief tribute to OurTown Cinemas and turn it into an article about the future of movie theaters in general. Then I recalled the 4th article I wrote for this site titled "I Walked Out on a Film", and felt like I'd be repeating myself once again.
So I will do said tribute now in this medley. In case you're unaware, OurTown Cinemas, my go-to local theatre up in Davidson, NC, shut its doors for good on Halloween with no plans of reopening. The news came via a two sentence long post on the company website. The plaza in which the theatre was located is being torn down and renovated. The company website is already out of commission as well. It's a devastating loss and a grim reminder of the uncertain times movie theaters are finding themselves in, even when making big bank.
I will miss OurTown Cinemas, and the nice touches it had to the filmgoing experience, chiefly more flexible seating arrangements. Their prices were fairly reasonable as well. Hopefully, another local movie theatre may find better luck in the future with similar perks up its sleeve. Even if it's unlikely, one can only hope. I'm not giving up on my end yet, as evidenced by the rough schedule laid out. I'll have the three lists out as soon as I can, once I feel they are in suitable shape.
Thanks again for your continued support to The Film Pub thus far. Best of wishes for everyone in having a pleasant holiday season, from today with Thanksgiving to Christmas Day proper. As a sign of good faith, I conclude this medley with a brief preview as to a few of the titles you can expect from the Top 50 Films list due soon. Cheers!
